Joseph A. Wineman was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received his BA, cum laude, in Biology from Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, PA in May 1977. Dr. Wineman graduated from University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in June 1981 in the top 10% of his class. Following graduation from dental school, Dr. Wineman entered the United States Army as a Captain in the Army Dental Corps to fulfill his military scholarships' obligation. After serving in Germany and Edgewood, MD, he was selected for training in Comprehensive Dentistry and was at that time, one of the youngest officer ever to be selected for the program. In 1989, Dr. Wineman graduated with honors from the Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry-2 year at Fort Bragg, NC. Following this graduation, he returned to Germany and eventually deployed in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During the first Gulf War he served as the officer in charge of the dental clinic supporting the largest Iraqi Prisoner of War camp. For his efforts during the conflict, MAJ Wineman was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Returning to Germany in the summer of 1991, he became Board Certified successfully passing the requirements of the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry. In 1997 LTC Wineman graduated with highest honors from Baylor University with a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration. In 1999, Colonel Wineman was awarded the "A" designator from The Surgeon General, US Army, recognizing him as one of the top practitioners in his specialty: Comprehensive Dentistry. Recognized by his peers for his clinical and scholarly contributions to his profession, Colonel Wineman was inducted as a Fellow, International College of Dentists in the fall of 2000. In October of 2002, Colonel Wineman officially retired from the US Army Dental Corps after completing 22 years of active duty service.

Following 17 moves during their time in the military, the Wineman family relocated to Nevada in September of 2002 eventually settling in Henderson in 2004. Since retiring Dr. Wineman has achieved Diplomate status with the American Board of General Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). Although he has been practicing for 30 years, Dr. Wineman believes in continuing education ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care he can possibly deliver. He always places the patient's welfare first. If Dr. Wineman refers you to a specialist it is because he wants you to have the very best dental care possible. Rest assured he will only refer to specialists he personally knows and respects and ones that will treat his patients like he does. He easily exceeds the state mandated minimum requirement for continuing education hours each year and seeks out courses that assist him in maximizing his patients' oral health.

Dr. Wineman is an active member of the Southern Nevada Dental Society where he serves as a member of the Executive Board and as a delegate to the Nevada Dental Association. Although he just stepped down as the Chariman of the SNDS Peer Review Committee after 7 years, he continues to serve on that important committee. Dr. Wineman also volunteers as a mentor to dental students attending UNLV School of Dental Medicine. He is a member of the American Dental Association as well as the Academy of General Dentistry. Recently Dr. Wineman was selected to serve as the first Advisory Chairman for the new Dental Cooperative that is setting up in the Vegas Valley. Please check out the Dental Co-Op and the Dental Benefit Plan under the "Business 2 Business" header tab.

In his free time, Dr. Wineman can be found working out at the LVAC at the 215 and Eastern, performing landscape maintenance at his home, reading dental journals and action-type novels (Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, Lee Childs), serving on his community's HOA Board of Directors, and very infrequently spraying golf balls around the local courses. Married to his college sweetheart, Cheri for almost 34 years, they have three adult married children and two grandsons and one granddaughter.

He and his wife enjoy dining out at one of the many restaurants around the valley with family and friends, taking in a movie, occasionally playing the penny machines at GVR and enjoying the free entertainment at "the District", meeting their patients at the Henderson COSTCO, or simply floating around in their backyard pool. He has now been taking guitar lessons for almost year (he nows owns 4 guitars-a blond Sheraton II, Epiphone Red SG G-400, Ibanez Ebony EWC30, and a DBZ Honey Sunburst Imperial FM). Watch for his debut CD coming to stores soon (just kidding)!
