Looking for a restaurant with good food and a speakeasy theme? Then try Capo's (website: http://caposrestaurant.com) on W. Sahara. Avoid the seemingly unnecessary valet (the spot right next to the restaurant in the shopping center) and ring the bell for speakeasy entrance. Tell them Joey sent you. Happy Hour; 2 for 1 drink specials and live theater behind the bar where you watch the chefs doing their thing. Only drawback is the low watt lighting--flashlights come attached to the menus. Good food, not to pricey. The original location on W. Flamingo has a Frank Sinatra sound alike crooning throughout your meal.
Friday Date Night: Dr. Wineman and his daughter Laurel took in the Doobie Brothers at Sunset Station on 17 June 2011. Prior to the concert, they dined at Sonoma Cellars. The concert was held at the outdoor venue called Sunset Station Amphitheater. While there are a few new faces in the band as a result of health issues, this veteran band of nearly 40 years can still play! Besides their classic rock hits that everyone knows (Dangerours, Long Train Running, China Grove, Listen to the Music, Rocking Down the Highway, etc) they played a 4-song set from their recently released album "World Gone Crazy". Click on the link to hear them perform their new single (acoustic version) "NOBODY"
Pole Position Ractrack (www.polepositionraceway.com) Located just behind the Palms Casino on Arville, this place is a blast for "kids" of all ages. Race around a serpentine track on electric powered indoor racing carts. Don't be fooled--they are super quick. Price is $25 per adult for a 10-15 minute race. A safety video is mandatory viewing and a helmet must be worn during the race. We recommend you wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes with socks. Failure to wear the correct attire will mean you cannot race.
Recent Movie Review: "Super 8" Our rating gives this movie a B+. What's is it about? A bunch of middle school kids are involved shooting a 8 mm movie for a film festival. They decide to sneak out of their homes to go to the local train station to film a scene. An Air Force train comes past and their science teacher deliberately causes the train to derail. As the kids scramble for cover, the camera keeps rolling and captures a government secret. The movie is directed by Stephen Spielberg ,so that should give you an idea that is it pretty good. Teenage romance, scary parts, and a misguided military officer. Playing in local theaters.
Summer has just finished her debut run on stage as Lily St. Regis in the musical "Annie" which opened the Super Summer Theater Season at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Her final performance was Saturday, 25 June 2011. Tickets for all of the upcoming shows can be purchased on their website (www.supersummertheatre.org).
